美国传教士卫三畏所编《拾级大成》是美国人在中国编印的第一部汉语教材。与此前为外国人编写的汉语学习材料如字典、文选等相比,《拾级大成》以汉字、会话、阅读和翻译等几个部分统摄全书,教学内容针对听、说、读、写等言语交际能力的主要组成部分展开,开始体现出汉语作为第二语言教学的方法意识。其中,对于汉字构造的讲解以及由此提出的科学的汉字学习方法,对于今天的汉语学习与教学仍具有借鉴意义。
The American missionary Wei Sanwei compiled “Ten Level Dacheng” is the first Chinese textbook that Americans compiled in China. Compared with Chinese learning materials such as dictionaries and essays previously compiled for foreigners, Tai Ji Dacheng compiles the whole book with Chinese characters, conversations, reading and translation, etc. The content of the book is aimed at listening, speaking, reading and writing. The main components of the ability to start, began to reflect the method of Chinese as a second language teaching awareness. Among them, the explanations of the structure of Chinese characters and the scientific method of Chinese character learning thus proposed still have reference meaning for today’s Chinese learning and teaching.
