在我省陇东董志塬西侧,蒲、茹河交汇处东岸的复钟山脚下,有一处规模较大、创建年代较早和延续时间较长的石窟群——北石窟寺.自古以来,这里曾是甘肃东部交通要隘上的一大佛教胜地.如今,成为陇东黄土高原上又一处旅游胜地.北石窟寺,俗称大佛寺,它与泾川县南石窟寺均创建于北魏永平二年(公元509年),系当时泾州刺史奚康生主持兴建.两寺南北对峙,交相辉映,故称为北石窟寺.北石窟寺自北魏开创后,历经西魏、北周、隋、唐、宋、清各代继续开窟增添,窟群密集,形如蜂房,在高20米、长120米的范围
