T群、C群和S群等玉米雄性不育系是利用自然变异选得的.国内选育的不育系比较稳定的有双_(26)、辽二型.利用杂交方法也选获一些不育系,如唐徐型、F型和G型.而利用恢复系所提供的细胞质创造新型不育系未见报道.由于玉米属仅有玉米一个独种,借助远缘胞质选育不育系难以奏效.鉴此情况,从1970年开始,笔者曾用不同地理来源的自交系相互杂交,恢复系与不育系杂交,恢复系与恢复系杂交等方式来选育不育系,但未见成效.历经数年摸索,探明利用恢复系的细胞质可以创造新型不育系,是一条选育新不育系的途径.
