细菌病害之一的根癌病,寄生于多种植物。据De Cleene等(1976)对138科,588属,1193种植物的接种试验证明,本病能侵染60%即715种以上的植物。在日本染根癌病的植物有桃、李、苹果、樱桃、杏、梨、榅悖、木莓、枇杷、柿、栗、葡萄等。对迄今几乎无任何防治办法的根癌病,终于在1972年由澳大利亚的A·Kerr发现放射土壤杆菌的株系84(Agrobacterium radiobacter strain 84=S’84),对桃树根癌病具有卓越的防治效果。其后,世界各地进行的广泛试验证明,St.84对多种作物
