Since the founding of New China, 50 years ago, with the rapid development of the railway construction, the length and number of railway tunnels have rapidly increased. In the late 1980s, 4800 railway tunnels have been constructed on 53,000 km of railway lines in the country, with a total length of 2,250 km, ranking first in number and second only to Japan with 2,500 km of tunnels in total length, second. Since the 1990s, according to the central government’s overall decision on railway construction, the number of over 5,000m tunnels on the railway has reached 5,800, accounting for about 1/4 of the total number of world’s railway tunnels. In the meantime, the total length of the railway tunnel is over 3,000 km, surpassing Japan’s longest in the world’s railway tunnel.
