但丁:文艺复兴时期的文学巨匠但丁是欧洲由中世纪过渡到近代资本主义那个时期的文学巨匠、意大利文艺复兴的先驱。1265年5月,但丁诞生在意大利佛罗伦萨一个颇受当地人尊敬的小贵族家庭里。《神曲》是其代表作,也是世界文学史上最为重要的文学作品之一。对于但丁这位承前启后、继往开来的诗人,恩格斯这样评价他:“封建的中世纪的终结和现代资本主义纪元的开端是以一位大人物为标志的,这位人物就是意大利人但丁。他是中世纪的最后一位诗人,同时又是新时代的最初一位诗人。”可见,他对但丁给予了很高的评价。《神曲》是一部比较特殊的史诗,因为诗中叙述的是诗人自己想象中的经历。全诗分《地狱》、《炼狱》和《天堂》三部,每部由33首“歌”组成,加上全书的序曲,总共有100首歌之多,计14 000多行。
