蒋介石的母亲王采玉是浙江省溪口葛竹村人。18岁那年,嫁给了跸驻乡曹家田的竺某。第二年春天,王采玉生了一个儿子,但孩子生下数月以后,突然患上不知名的急症夭折了。这年秋天,曹家田一带霍乱流行,王采玉的丈夫竺某也没有逃脱这场瘟疫。王采玉遭到丈夫和儿子双双病死的变故,精神上承受不了,于是萌发了遁入空门当尼姑的念头。不久,王采玉就在葛竹附近的金竹庵开始带发修行。
