Most people think that British English (English for short) is more elegant than American English (abbreviated as American) in vocabulary and some other aspects. For half a century, literary researchers have repeatedly tried to analyze the characteristics of the American language to confirm this view. Based on many people’s prejudice against the American language, this article shows that the American language and English are so-called vulgarity and elegance through the characteristics of the innovative, conservative, rich slang and jargon of the American language vocabulary closely related to American history and culture. There is no difference, and this removes misunderstandings of American English by American learners.
