Phospholipase D is a family of membrane lipolytic enzymes that are predominantly phosphatidylcholine substrates that can be activated by a variety of stimuli to produce a series of intracellular signaling molecules that exert cellular functions via either protein kinase C or non-protein kinase C . This article mainly introduces the change of enzyme activity of phosphatidylcholine-specific phospholipase D in diabetic neutrophils and heart, blood vessels, kidneys and nerve tissue cells, and its signal transduction pathways that lead to various complications of diabetes. To explore the role of phospholipase D pathway in the pathogenesis of diabetic complications may exist
