阴阳观念是具有鲜明中国特色的哲学思想,它几乎渗透到社会生活、文学艺术、医学等许多方面,也不可避免地对装饰艺术发生深刻影响,以至形成“阴阳对偶律”。这种规律虽然离不开阳尊阴卑的基本思想,但以阴阳调和就是吉祥为宗旨,产生了在内容上尊必有卑、阳必有阴;在形式上左必有右、上必有下的装饰格局,在这种格局中又体现尊卑有分的传统观念。 The concept of yin and yang is a philosophical thought with distinctive Chinese characteristics.
