中国的刻铜艺术源远流长,其源头可上溯到商周时代的金文,此后数千年虽然延绵不绝,然直接在铜面上刻书画者罕,这种局面直到晚清同治年间出了个“异军突起”的陈寅生,才使得刻铜艺术大放异彩。陈寅生(1830-1910),名麟炳,顺天(今北京市)人,清同治秀才,通医学,能书善画,首创在墨盒上镌刻书画,为清末刻铜第一人。邓之诚《骨董琐记》说:“京师厂肆专业墨盒者,推万丰斋为最先,刻字则始于陈寅生秀才。”徐珂在《清稗类钞》中记
