Color words are the wealth of vocabulary, and they are the connection between colors and language, which not only re-flects human perception to colors but also embodies languages'characteristics. The fact that color words are widely used in a lan-guage shows that they are functionally practical. However, there are a lot of differences in the usages and connotations of"red"be-tween Chinese and English. Man has a common feeling about"red", because"red"cannot only express the natural gorgeous col-ors, but also reflect the view of value and the aesthetic standards of a people. To this point,"red"has more than its literal meaning. It also has rich connotation meanings. This article analyzes the cultural differences of "red"from the historical tradition, religious beliefs, habits and customs and social reasons etc. And then it probes into their influences on the two languages with detailed dis-cussion, pointing out the similarities and differences which exist in the language performance.
