太西煤开发利用是个大课题,笔者只从太西煤经加工生产炭素材料的侧面谈些看法。太西无烟煤对生产钢铁用炭素与铝用炭素而言,不是用作燃料,而是主要原料之一。发展炭素材料必须依靠高质量的原料才能实现,首先要求供应含炭量高的好精料(石油焦与无烟煤)。因此炭素行业愿以高价觅购太西煤精料,以保证炭素产品质量。1983年以前炭素行业只有兰州炭素厂一家使用太西煤,其后炭素行业在行业发展规划中扩大了太西煤的使用,例如曾连续使用
