Detector comments There are many common features of pyroelectric detectors and other heat detectors. Usually it has a uniform response over a wide range of wavelengths, limited only by the sensor’s ability to absorb radiation. By coating the detector with a suitable absorbing black layer, the coating transfers heat to the sensor’s substrate, which in many cases extends this wavelength range. Heat detectors also show excellent repeatability and surface uniformity. However, unlike other heat detectors, the thermoelectric effect depends on the rate at which the temperature of the detector changes rather than on the temperature of the detector itself, which allows the pyroelectric to dissipate heat
