OBJECTIVE: To compare the variation of free gingival position with different impression material impressions by 3D model analysis. Methods: Sixty anterior teeth were randomly selected from 10 healthy subjects as experimental subjects. The optical model data were acquired by intracostal optical scanning (CEREC ~ AC Omnicam) before and after the experiment. Three kinds of impression materials (alginate, polyether, addition type silicone rubber) were used to take the impression in the mouth. The superhard anhydrite model was drew and the gypsum model was scanned to obtain the three-dimensional data. Optical model data of the intraoral scan was overlaid with the optical model data scanned by the gypsum model software (Geomagic Qualify 2013) to compare the free gingival position variation after different impressions were made. Results: There was significant difference in the free gingival position after imprinting (P <0.05). There was no significant difference in the position of free gingival between alginate impression and polyether impression (P > 0.05). There was significant difference between the position of free gingiva in alginate impression and alginate impression and polyether impression (P <0.05). The free gingiva of impression silicone rubber impression The largest change in location (P <0.05). CONCLUSION: The pressure generated during the impression process will result in varying degrees of free gingival location. The different gingival materials lead to different changes of free gingival location. Intraoral optical impression can accurately evaluate the location of free gingiva.
