单元整体教学是建立在“整体教学”的理论基础上的,其心理学基础是1912年始创于德国的格式塔心理学,又叫“完形主义”。格式塔心理学者认为:从培养创造性思维的立场出发,不仅学生应将学习情境视为一个整体来感知,教师更应努力把学习情境作为一个整体呈现给学生。而这有着一百余年历史的单元整体教学现在作为一个热门的教育话题被越来越多的人们关注和研究,究其原因,可能最重要的一点是因为2011版的《英语课程标准》的教学
