A semantic field can be composed by several species words under a common genus. The general word can be called superordinate, while the specific one hyponym. Thereupon, the inclusiveness of semantic relations is said to be hyponymy. Hyponymy theory is an important semantic theory, which plays a significant role in English teaching. By simply analyzing the application of hyponymy theory in English listening, reading, and writing teaching, the author gets the conclusion: teachers should apply hyponymy in English teaching in order to improve the students' ability to catch information accurately and communicate effectively.
