甘薯淀粉是我国轻工业的重要原料之一,为了满足工农业生产对高淀粉甘薯品种的要求,江苏省农科院粮食所在1981~1988年以高淀粉、高产、抗病为主攻目标,从南丰×栗子香的杂交后代中选育出高淀粉新品种苏薯2号(原系号为宁403-180,简称宁180)。1986~1988年江苏省及全国大区区域试验和生产试验的结果表明,苏薯2号鲜产与徐薯18相仿,薯干和淀粉产量都比徐薯18增产10%以上,薯干率和鲜薯淀粉率都比徐
