To reduce cellulosic production costs, Sappi plans to build a pilot plant for nanocellulose in the Semilut Park in the Netherlands. The pilot plant is scheduled to be completed and put into operation within nine months. The raw material used is man-made fiber wood pulp manufactured by Sappi’s man-made fiber factory. The pilot plant is Sappi’s pioneer in the commercialization of cellulose nanofibers considering the patented technology co-owned by Sappi and Edinburgh Napier University.
