前言有一次,一位老先生问我学什么的,我答以加速器。他竖起大姆指勉励我多多努力,把加速器研究清楚,美国就不必每年进口这么多石油了。我糊涂了好一阵子之后才弄清楚,原来老先生把加速器和核能混为一谈了。其实老先生也不算错,加速器与核能虽然是两回事,但对过去核物理与今天核聚变的研究发展,加速器确实有它的贡献。只是,加速器并不限于供做核物理研究用,其它如医疗、生物、X光源、材料研究等,也都用到加速器。电子显微镜基本上是一座电子加速器;电视机的萤光管也是由一个小型的加速器构成。
Foreword Once, an old gentleman asked me what to learn, I answer the accelerator. He put up a thumb that encouraged me to work harder, to study accelerator clearly, the United States will not have to import so much oil each year. I was confused for a while before I figured out that the old man put the accelerator and nuclear energy confused. In fact, the old gentleman is not wrong, accelerator and nuclear although it is two different things, but the past nuclear fusion and nuclear fusion research and development, the accelerator does have its contribution. However, the accelerator is not limited to be used for nuclear physics research, others such as medical, biological, X-ray, material research, also use accelerator. An electron microscope is basically an electron accelerator; the fluorescent tube of a television is also made up of a small accelerator.
