Competition is not just from China. Harbin Airport is seeking to become an internationally influential airport, while many Chinese airports pay more attention to the domestic market and less consider their international positioning. According to the CAPA report, the capacity (seat capacity) of Siberia to China increased by 202% between 2003 and 2012 and the northern Chinese city of Harbin is seeking to become the hub of China-Siberia route network. Currently, Harbin Airport accounts for only 15% of Siberia’s market share in China, far less than Beijing International Airport, 1000 kilometers southwest of it.
