《醒世姻缘传》上承《金瓶梅》，下启《红楼梦》，是明清之际较有特色的一部世情小说，作者可能是山东人。其实，该书除有大量山东方言词语外，也有不少湘方言词语。确定这一点，对《醒世姻缘传》的研究与汉语史研究都具有重要意义。
