湖北秭归茅坪金矿是一个低硫化物石英脉型金矿床.除含自然金类矿物外,还发现较多微细粒浸染的碲化物,以Au-Ag-Pb-Te-Bi矿物共生组合为特征,属新型石英脉金,国内并不多见. 含金石英脉主要分布于石英闪长岩及其外接触带前震旦系崆岭群变质岩系中.矿脉围岩蚀变强烈,主要有硅化、绢云母化、高岭土-碳酸盐化、绿泥石-绿帘石化等.地表可见含金高的铁帽.矿石矿物有金属硫化物、原生造岩矿物、次生蚀变矿物和表生氧化矿物,共达40余种.矿脉中的石英包裹体测温,起爆温度为160℃,属中-低温成矿.
