Toll-like receptors (TLRs) belong to a class of pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) that are activated by molecular components that are conserved by certain endogenous molecules and microorganisms. They constitute the body’s first line of defense against pathogenic microorganisms and play an important role in the innate immune system. Further understanding that TLRs regulate the adaptive immune response not only provides a means of improving the treatment of infectious diseases but also helps to find new ways to treat and prevent allergic diseases and certain autoimmune diseases. This review aims to discuss current research hotspots and elucidate the role and mechanism of TLRs in the regulation of Th1 / Th2 responses.
