词汇教学是外语教学领域研究的一个重要课题,词汇习得也是学生在外语习得中的关键问题和难题。英语中存在大量的多义词,在不同的语境中体现不同的含义。根据原型范畴理论多义词各义项之间具有的家族相似性特征的原理,以及人在记忆时所遵循的由简到繁,由原型到特殊的一般规律,因此在学习多义单词时,教师可以运用原型范畴理论帮助学生形成多义词汇的认知语义网络,培养学生对词汇原型意义的意识。
