High resolution color cathode ray tubes are currently being installed for electronic level position indicators (EHSI), electronic flight attitude indicator (EADI) and engine indications and crew occupant alerting systems (EICAS) in cockpit civil aircraft. This new instrumentation system will be very popular as the new civilian aircraft will prove that using color cathode ray tube displays will minimize the crew’s workload and maximize the safety of the aircraft. Toshiba has successfully developed four high-resolution shadow mask-type color cathode ray tubes for civilian aircraft and two for general aviation avionics. In order to meet the various requirements of avionics equipment, more types of products are needed. This article will introduce the characteristics of aircraft displays and the basic elements for designing a color cathode ray tube for aeronautics (the tube is shown in photo 1) (omitted).
