In April 2008, four disaster reduction agencies including the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the United States Geological Survey (USGS) National Earthquake Mitigation Program 2012 (NEHRP). Based on the needs and realities, the plan proposes how to make effective use of various resources so as to reduce losses in future earthquakes. This earthquake mitigation plan for the next five years is simple and highly operational. As an essential part of support services, the NEHRP program proposes to maximize the use of new and advanced research facilities and available data collection networks, in particular the National Seismograph Network System (ANSS), the United States
