Objective To analyze the causes of abnormal serum electrolytes in elderly patients with severe pneumonia and the impact on the disease and prognosis. Methods Thirty-two elderly patients with severe pneumonia and 36 elderly patients with severe pneumonia were enrolled in this study. Serum potassium, sodium, chloride and calcium concentrations were determined by collecting 2 ml of venous blood in 24 hours after admission. Statistical analysis was performed. Results Serum levels of potassium, sodium and chloride in patients with severe pneumonia were significantly lower than those in patients with mild pneumonia (P <0.01). The difference was statistically significant. Compared with the poor prognosis group, the serum sodium significantly decreased (P <0.01), and the difference was statistically significant. Conclusion The incidence of electrolyte imbalance in elderly patients with severe pneumonia is high, and hyponatremia has a clear relationship with prognosis. Monitoring blood electrolytes in a timely manner to be corrected, contribute to disease judgment, improve the therapeutic effect and improve the prognosis.
