2011年7月,《社会科学战线》公布了一合入唐百济人祢军的墓志~([1])。据作者王连龙先生(以下省略敬称)介绍,祢军墓志出现于陕西西安,志盖上刻有“大唐故右威卫将军上柱国祢公墓志铭”十六篆字,志文共31行,满行30字,总计884字,记述了祢军的家族世系与仕途功业。这合墓志很快引起中日学者的广泛关注,特别是围绕志文中“日本”一词的理解,展开了激烈的探讨,积累下比较丰富的研究成果~([2])。本文在前人的基础上,试图从东亚世界的视角出发,对志文“日本”的准确含义,以及祢军出使倭国的具体情况作出自己的解释,以请教于大方之家。
