李鸿章久任直隶总督兼北洋通商大臣,他兴办洋务,筹建海防,集内政外交大权于一身,是清末大名鼎鼎的实权人物。他“声出政府之上,名满中外,为近代所未有”。就是这样一位权倾一时、位及人臣的大忙人,却在年过六旬之后的十余年内,六次到威海卫勘察海湾港口,选择适合海军屯驻之基地,巡阅海防建设工程,校阅北洋海军操演大典,令世人惊叹。本文就李鸿章六次巡阅威海卫的相关情况做简要介绍。
