In the 1960s, globalization began to gain momentum as companies seeking larger markets expanded their reach and interests across borders. As a salient feature of this process and reinforcing this process, there are four major developments as follows: the scope of economic activity spans the nation-states; the liberalization of international trade; the growing flow of international funds; and the development of information and communication technologies. The above developments have almost completely changed the world economic system. However, while the new world economy opens up new prospects for the development of the global economy, it presents a daunting challenge for sub-Saharan African countries.
