一九八九年是伟大的中华人民共和国建立四十周年大庆之年。为向建国四十周年献礼,长影将隆重推出几部高质量的献礼影片,其中之一便是历史巨片《班禅东行》。彩色宽银幕历史故事片《班禅东行》以清朝乾隆四十五年,西藏黄教领袖六世班禅巴丹益西不远万里跋山涉水,历尽千辛万苦,从西藏日喀则出发,经青海、宁夏、内蒙等地奔赴河北承德避暑山庄,为乾隆皇帝祝寿的历史事件为素材,通过曲折生动的情节,栩栩如生的人物形象,歌颂六世班禅的爱国热忱和为维护祖国统一做出的历史功绩以及乾隆皇帝安远抚边的雄才大略。
