孟荀关于性之善恶的争论,其实质是古典政治哲学的问题。荀子对性善论的批评,深刻反映了哲学与政治、思想与现实、理论与实践之间的冲突和矛盾,我们只有从古典政治哲学的角度才能认识到这一点。荀子深刻地认识到孟子性善论潜在的否定秩序、罔顾具体现实的品性,从而勇敢地将之改造为性恶论。荀子对孟子的批评所揭示的问题在今天仍然存在。现代学人之所以看不到荀子理论之价值,乃在于囿于启蒙之视野。启蒙与佛老思想一样遮蔽了荀子思想之深刻内涵。
Mencius’s controversy over the goodness and evil of nature is essentially a matter of classical political philosophy. Xunzi’s criticism of the theory of goodness profoundly reflects the conflicts and contradictions between philosophy and politics, between thoughts and reality, between theory and practice, and we can only recognize this from the perspective of classical political philosophy. Xunzi profoundly recognized the potential negative order of Mencius’s good nature, disregarding the character of concrete reality and courageously transforming it into the theory of sexuality and evil. The problems revealed by Xunzi’s criticism of Mencius still exist today. The reason why modern scholars can not see the value of Xunzi’s theory lies in their horizons of enlightenment. Enlightenment obscured the profound connotation of Xunzi’s thought just like the old Buddhism thought.
