The extraction of industrial aggregate resources is often compromised by the inclusion of high clay waste. These deposits exist as overburden, interlayers or dispersed ore bodies in aggregate structures such as trench fillings. In assessing regional resources and detailed proven reserves, it is important to make a geological sketch of high clay sediments. The traditional method of measuring the conductivity of a device’s rock (the inverse of which is resistivity) is to use an electrode array. In recent years, the development of portable gauges has led to the rapid measurement of formation conductivity. There is a distinctly different electrical conductivity between the granular aggregates and wastes such as viscous silt or clay. This difference makes it easy to distinguish the two rock formations
