The advent of Internet technology has, and will continue to have, the most profound impact on second language acquisition. This is because the Internet offers a great deal of possibilities for a meaningful exchange of understandable language input and speaking native speakers in real context. In addition, it provides a more student-centered learning environment that is more in line with the structuralist teaching philosophy. This article begins with a general introduction of constructivism as a learning theory, and then connects constructivist theory with second language acquisition as a whole, and then specifically with the Internet to all possible opportunities for language learning. This article also discusses the use of the Internet in classroom language teaching, its advantages, and the Internet’s concerns for second language learning
