大陆边缘地质国际学术讨论会[又称哈尔伯特(M.T.Halbouty)大陆边缘会议]于1989年12月5日至9日在美国德克萨斯州南部海滨城市加尔维斯顿(Galveston)举行。参加会议的有来自中、美、英、意、加拿大、西德、澳大利亚、新西兰等国共96名代表,我国地质矿产部及海洋石油总公司共派四名代表参加。会议受美国石油地质协会委托,由德克萨斯州工农大学地球物理系主任沃金斯(JoelS.Watkins)教授主持,会议提交了40篇论文,集中讨论了三方面的问题:1.大陆边缘的构造特征及地质发展史;
The Continental Marginal Geology International Symposium [also known as the MTHalbouty Continental Margins Conference] was held in Galveston, a coastal city in the southern state of Texas, from December 5 to December 9, 1989 . A total of 96 delegates from China, the United States, Britain, Italy, Canada, West Germany, Australia and New Zealand attended the conference and a total of four representatives from China’s Ministry of Geology and Mines and Offshore Oil Corporation participated. Commissioned by the American Petroleum Geological Association and chaired by Professor Joel S. Watkins, director of the Department of Geophysics at Texas A & M University, the conference presented 40 papers that focused on three issues: 1. The continental margin Tectonic features and geological history;
