美国戏剧之父尤金·奥尼尔的戏剧创作思想中始终闪耀着古希腊悲剧精神的光芒。在戏剧创作题材、表达方式、创作精神三个方面,奥尼尔的作品中充满着古典戏剧元素。奥尼尔在自己充满悲剧张力的作品中展示现代人的人生困境。在他看来,人生是一个充满无望与希望的过程,只有回到古希腊雄伟壮丽的精神中去,现代人才能找到解决人生悲剧性的途径,才能直面人生的苦难,才能重拾人性的崇高。
Eugene O’Neill, the father of American drama, always shines with the glorious spirit of ancient Greek tragedy.
