In the United States, about 85% of households have newspapers, 98% of households have radios and 95% of households have televisions. (See [U] Wilbur Schramm, William Porter, “Introduction to Communication,” p. 169, Xinhua Press, September 1984.) The news media is quite popular. In our country, newspapers, radio and television lag behind developed countries in terms of per capita possession and coverage. However, judging from the 40 years since the founding of New China, development has been very rapid. According to the materials provided in the 1987 China News Yearbook, the number of newspapers in the country increased to 2,342 in 1986, of which 984 were postal newspapers and newspapers, with a total number of 207.22 million copies. The total number of newspapers and the total number of issues were respectively 16.72 times and 63.79 times of the total number of newspapers and the number of haircuts in the early days of the founding of New China. The average density of various newspapers is 7.03 people have a newspaper
