William Hazlitt (1778 ~ 1830) is a British essayist and critic. This article is an excerpt from Herzliat’s essay “On the Ignorance of the Learned,” comparing students in the school who are “hard-working, obedient,” and “lazy rebel.” Diligent students study hard , Lecturing, reciting, reading, but depressing one’s own spirituality; while lazy students, by their own interests, guide, exercise, play, admire natural beauty and allow their temperament to be freely exercised. Herzlet believes that the current school education in Britain mainly trains students ’memory ability and inhibits the students’ temperament. Students should be energetic, close to nature, have the courage to reveal their feelings and fully develop their own temperament and all aspects of their abilities.
