According to a recent study by researchers in Seattle, Washington, USA, elderly patients with COPD should be monitored for bone mineral density to prevent osteoporosis. The researchers first made the assumption that since smoking and sedentary lifestyles are a common risk of COPD and osteoporosis, bone metabolism may also be disordered in patients with chronic lung disease.
