本文讨论的江淮分水岭东段地区系指安徽境内的滁县、全椒、来安和嘉山等四县,即位于北纬32°00′—33°12′、东经118°00′—118°57′的范围内,南北长约140公里,东西宽约66公里,总面积7,000余平方公里。该区南部为长江支流—滁河流域,北部为淮河支流—池河流域,江淮分水岭横贯中部,区内地势为中部隆起,且向两侧倾斜。滁河、池河两水系自中部分水岭地带分别向南、北两侧流入长江、淮河。在区域构造、岩性、气候变化、海面升降以及地面倾斜等多种因素综合控制下,该区地面被塑造、堆积,形成各种地貌形态及第四纪沉积层。
