The purpose of this thesis is to explore the mystery of Sphinx in Wuthering Heights. Through the comparison of figures, plot comparison, data analysis and content analysis, it is found that the mystery of Wuthering Heights is mainly reflected in four aspects: Identity, Heathcliff’s own, intertwined dreams and ghosts, and Hareton and Casey, another pair of Heathcliff and Catherine. Finally, the article concludes that love and hate are two extremes and are unified and can be transformed into each other. Love and hate are not contradictory and mutually exclusive, and hate the ultimate is still love.
