Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is one of the common microvascular complications of diabetes mellitus (DM). There is a lot of evidence that genetic factors play an important role in the development of DN. The pathogenesis of DN is related to genetic polymorphisms, gene mutations and abnormal expression. The current study found that with diabetic nephropathy related genes for a review. It mainly includes genes of renin angiotensin system such as angiotensin Ⅱ type 1 receptor gene; genes involved in non-insulin dependent glucose metabolism such as aldose reductase gene and glucose transporter gene; and protein metabolism related Genes such as: methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase gene; and lipid metabolism related genes such as: apolipoprotein E gene and other related genes. The research conclusions are not consistent. The use of high-throughput research methods such as gene chip provide a useful tool for further study of genes closely related to the development of diabetic nephropathy.
