刘芳艳是2006年湖北省和荆门市在“八荣八耻”活动中涌现出来的先进典型。她年仅22岁,是宁夏回族自治区一个贫困家庭的大学生,就读于湖北荆门职业技术学院2004级计算机绘图专业。 2006年春节后,休学一年的刘芳艳,毅然决然带着年已60岁的双目失明孤苦伶仃的母亲,从打工挣学费的天津回到荆门职业技术学院继续求学。不久,她一边打工、一边带着盲母上大学的感人事迹感动着她身边的人,当地媒体进行了报道。一时间,“刘芳艳”的名字家喻户晓,她们母女成了社会关注的焦点。
