人的居室少不了窗户,人需要窗户来透气、采光,但近些年在建筑节能的讨论中,窗户被无情的指责为建筑能耗的黑洞。在夏天,人们运用空调来降低室内温度,但阳光却通过窗户直射进来,这就使得空调必须不断的工作,能耗巨大。LOW-E玻璃的问世解决了夏天阳光的直射,可是在我国存在大面积的夏热冬冷地区,在寒冷的冬天,我国中部大部分地区没有暖气供给,室内温度往往比室外还低,又需要阳光的射入,而LOW-E玻璃此时便成了一块寒冰,阻挡了这一切。
