The two-bar rectangular beam design diagram in the second part of the CP110 in 1972 allows the designer to select different cross-sectional areas of the lacing and the pressed bars when the M/bd~2 value is known. The following analysis shows that for a maximum bending moment there is a minimum steel rate P = (r + r’). Applying this result to draw two comprehensive design diagrams ensures that the value at R(=M/f_(cu)bd~2) is greater than 0.15 is minimal.
