在第一个教师节到来的日子里,我听到了许多赞颂教师的话,有的把教师比做蜡烛,有的把教师比做春蚕,更多地当然是称为园丁。感奋之余,我曾想:这些比喻的共同点无非是献身精神——这种献身不同于烈士们的慷慨捐躯,而是要默默无闻地在平凡的岗位上奉献出自己的一生。这种献身精神,是由教师的职业特点所决定的。因为教育的有效周期长,“十年树木,百年树人”。一个教师教上一、两年,甚至三、五年,很难看出他的贡献。必须教上十几年、乃至几十年,他所教的学生陆续成才,成了各条战线上的骨干力量,才能看出教师的贡献。如果一个教师每年教两个教学班,约100人,
During the first Teachers’ Day, I heard many words of praise to teachers, some of them comparing candles to teachers, others to spring chickens, and more of course to gardeners. Excited, I have thought: the common ground of these metaphors is nothing more than dedication - this devotion is different from the generous sacrifice of martyrs, but to obscurity in his ordinary post dedicated to his life.
