A broad industrial alliance, including Intel Corp., PC makers and software vendors, announced a forum two weeks ago to develop and enhance the use of wireless communications worldwide. This creative code-named Blue Tooth effort created a hardware specification that enables PCs, smartphones and PDAs to connect to corporate networks via wireless LAN. The initial purpose of the working group was to establish a network specification based on wireless transmission equipment and receiving equipment. Transmission equipment and receiving equipment operating frequency is 2.4GHZ. Blue Tooth’s members are industry celebrities, including Intel, Puma Technology, IBM, Toshiba, Nokia and Ericsson and other companies. They all plan to develop products based on the specification. Blue Tooth-compliant technology will allow data to be transmitted over a distance of 30 to 100 feet. Its price will be slightly more expensive than the traditional infrared network. This technology allows laptop users to dial in-house using their smartphones as a modem while on the move. Inside the office, the technology can be used in a network hub to keep users connected to the network while moving around the company. It also allows users to synchronize personal information between a PDA and a PC, such as an address book.
