Written by Carol Benedict, professor of history at Georgetown University, USA, compiled by Compilation Committee of the State Qing History Commission and Plague of Nineteenth Century China, published in April 2015 by Renmin University of China press. The book makes full use of both Chinese and English materials such as records of local chronicles, medical books, newspapers, magazines, travelers from the West, Chinese customs officers, and officials from U.S. consular posts. It not only explores the origins and spread of plague from the perspective of medical history, but also from the perspective of social history Discovering the complex interactions between state and society, colonial government and colonial peoples caused by public health problems caused by the plague.
