在农作物新品种推广和良种繁育技术研究中，结合种子工作实践，研究总结出育种者种子→原原种→原种→良种的“四级种子生产程序”，并根据各类农作物遗传变异特点和良种繁育方式的不同，归纳为四种不同应用模式。该程序使原种生产周期缩短两年，并能从根本上保持优良品种的种性和纯度，还具有操作简便、省时、省工、节约种源、减少世代之功效。有利于实现“育、繁、推”一体化和种子标准化。
